So, what's all this misfortu.net business all about then? Well we used to operate under the pseudonym "Schoolroad", cos that is where we lived when it all started (back in the day...). Even after we had all moved we kept on at Schoolroad, until early 2002 when a move was forced by the ending of free web hosting at our old hosts. So, seeing as we had to move anyway we thought that a proper name would be a good idea, preferably something a bit weird and a bit funny. Right, so this hasn't really got us any closer to the origins. A little while ago on Mark and Lard's radio show they used to have a comedy quiz called the Wheel of Misfortune (which has now been replaced by the entirely different game Circle of Chance). Two contestants came on and at the start they had to pour out their tales of misfortune before heading on to the quiz proper. This lead to the emergence of the catchphrase "How Misfortunate" (as well as the resurrection of "I hate you Butler" from On The Buses). This was one of our favourite catchphrases for a while, ranking only slightly behind "Can you see what I've done there?" and "Nominate, errr, Sharda". So, when trying to work out what we were going to call ourselves Rob came up with "misfortunate.net" and from there it was only a short step to "misfortu.net" (can you see what we've done...). A short step that took Rob five days and Rob's brother five minutes - you can see who got the brains there. So that is, in a nutshell, it, and the rest will be history. |
