Sunday dawned bright and sunny. Well, I'm guessing it did 'cos I didn't actually get up until about 10:00, and only then because of the risk of suffocation in my furnace like tent. Whilst Russ slept the sleep of a man with a stereo in his bag, Rob, Paul and Glenn decided to walk to the supermarket to get more beer, a paper for the footie results and other food and stuff. The path out from the campsite to the road was very muddy and it was quite amusing passing the day ticket holders coming in with their shiny clean trainers trying to dodge the mud.

Got to the supermarket to find it full of mud and dirty festival goers, and empty of food and drink. We got what we'd come for then queued for ages to buy it. When we did get to the till the poor lad behind it had to type in 29p twelve times for Paul's twelve small bottles of water (it might not sound funny, I guess you had to be there). Had lunch halfway back and as we were walking through the campsite we bumped into the group from the night before, a quick natter with them then back to the tents. Still really sunny, so sunscreen and baseball caps were slapped on before we headed into the arena.

Headed straight for the loos as usual, but today you had to wade through water and mud just to get to them... at least I HOPE it was only water and mud! JJ72 were on the Evening Session Stage, but to be honest we were sick of "Oxygen" now. Good tune though it is, it was played between every act on the main stage. It got a bit annoying after a while. Gorky's Zygotic Mynci were on the main stage, and were just the perfect band for sitting in the sun in the mid-afternoon. Chilled, melodious tunes. Superb.Stayed on for Idlewild cause Russ is a bit of a fan. They were alright/excellent (delete as appropriate).

We must have wandered off somewhere next 'cos we didn't see Deftones who were on next, but we were back for the announcement that Elastica weren't going to play due to Justine losing her voice. It must be due to over-work. They handed out Elastica sweatbands instead. Ooh. The alternative to Elastica was Queens Of The Stone Age who packed out the Evening Session Stage. Playing thundering rock riffs, they got through most of their new album before returning for an encore with a naked bass player. There's nothing like the sight of a fifteen stone bald nude bearded bass player. Thankfully.

Think we saw Dark Star next. Can't remember what they were like though, so let's assume for the moment that they weren't really good and weren't really bad. Don't you hate it when two really good bands clash? By seeing Super Furry Animals I had to miss Black Box Recorder. Grrr. Super Furries were excellent though, playing mainly tunes from Guerrilla and Mwng, the highlights were Night Vision and the totally excellent Northern Lites. It all went a bit weird at the end though as the band emerged dressed in animal costumes to a thumping techno beat and gave a kind of black power salute. What was all that about then? Gomez were up next, they gained bonus points for throwing loads, and I mean loads, of inflatable toys into the crowd, including a crocodile and a whale. Top. For the more rock members, there was the option of seeing At The Drive-In rip up the Carling Tent. Sporting an afro that could threaten Tokyo in the better class of Japanese B-movies, the lead singer Cedric jumped onto every piece of metal at the side of the stage. Whilst screaming about the "One Armed Scissor", which sounds like some kind of Zen thing.

Oh no, more good bands clashing, this time the American Badly Drawn Boy Beck in a head-to-head with the English Beck Badly Drawn Boy. Most plumped for Beck in the end 'cos BDB was playing Sheffield soon, and in the immortal words of Dave "I'm looking forward to seeing Beck; he's very good live". He was on pretty good form actually, with the best of Odelay and Midnite Vultures being played. More weirdness at the end as the stage was wrapped from side to side in "Do Not Enter" tape. OK.... Russ escaped to see Damon play a set which walked the fine line between laid-back and shambling. But a legendary cover of "Born In The USA", and a final song with his girlfriend while the roadies cleared the stage, ensured it was a triumph.

Headliners tonight were Pulp. First song was a storming electro version of "Common People", after which Jarvis got a bit frustrated with a water bottle which wouldn't open. He was on excellent form though, the best frontman in the business? During the second or third song the heavens opened and it legged it down until the end. As the weather had been good all day none of us had coats either, so we got very wet. Jarvis uttered the immortal words "well, we could do without this couldn't we" and got the whole crowd to look up at the sky and shout "STOP!". It almost worked. It was an excellent set though, rain or no rain, from "Different Class", "This is Hardcore" and four or five newies. Storming stuff. Shuffled back to the tent in the rain, dried off and got into my sleeping bag, then it stopped raining. So got up again and had a few beers chatting to Paul, Glenn and our old Hornets teammate Physics Dave who we'd bumped into by chance yesterday. Bed.
